BINTAN ISLAND Sanchaya, a resort on Bintan island, has named Magnus Olovson as general manager.
He comes to the beachfront property on Bintan Island after seven years in Cambodia’s Siem Reap.
As a partner in both the Heritage Suites Hotel and Café IndoChine Restaurant, in Siem Reap, his responsibilities ranged from overseeing training to full property refurbishments and market repositioning.
Swedish-born Olovson started his career at Hotel Negresco in Nice, France, and Sheraton Oran Hotel & Towers in Algeria, before becoming general manager of the British Virgin Islands’ Peter Island Resort. He also managed the 2009 launch of Le Gray Hotel in Beirut.
“The Sanchaya has outstanding staff trained by the British Butler Institute… and remarkable facilities overlooking one of the world’s most stunning beaches,” said Olovson.
He intends to spearhead Sanchaya’s corporate social responsibility programme that includes year-long hospitality scholarships for young Bintan residents.
The resort offers 21 villas and nine suites, a clubhouse, two restaurants, a bar, wine cellar and a 50-metre long infinity pool, spa, and fitness centre.
Bintan is a 45-minute ferry ride from Singapore.
