Travel to Vietnam booms in February

HANOI Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates the country welcomed 1,199,421 international visitors in February representing an increase of 42.2% over the same month last year.

China was the top supply market with 403,663 visits improving 84.4%. Other top performers were South Korea, Taiwan, the United States and Japan.

Thailand slipped off the top 10 source markets list recording 25,205 visits, although there was a healthy growth rate of 35.4%.

Neighbouring Cambodia also slipped off the top list posting 22,861 visits with a massive 131.7%, while Laos recorded 17,661 visits up 132.0%.

All of the country’s top markets are in the Asia/Pacific region with the exception of the US (fourth), Russia (sixth), the UK (ninth) and France (10th).

The bulk of arrivals in February (984,013) passed through the two main aviation gateways Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

For January and February, the country welcomed 2,206,659 international travellers increasing 33.0%.

VNAT updated its data on its website, Wednesday, sourced from the government statistics office.

In an effort to deal with the surge of Chinese travellers, local authorities are attempting to recruit more guides and offer more information written in Chinese.

Danang, for example, is training more tour guides who can speak Chinese. Nha Trang and Danang are favorite destinations for Chinese tourists.
