Nha Trang hosts colourful festival

KHANH HOA, Nha Trang Sea Festival will be held in the central province of Khanh Hoa, Vietnam, from 10 to 13 June, with 50 arts, cultural and sporting activities.

Themed ‘Extending the Circle of Friendship’, the event will include a street festival, lion and dragon dances, a fishing competition, and cooking contests.

Chefs from Nha Trang Tourism College will also attempt to make the largest ever seafood hotpot in Vietnam.

The biennial event will also feature a beach volleyball tournament, a beach football tournament and various folk games.

The festival will see performances of art troupes from the provinces of Dak Lak, Thua Thien – Hue and Bac Lieu as well as five foreign troupes from Spain, France, South Korea, Australia and Russia.

Khanh Hoa provincial Tourism Department deputy director, Phan Thi Thanh Truc, was quoted saying local authorities have directed agencies to take measures to stablise prices as well as ensure food safety and healthcare for visitors during the festival.

The festival is expected to welcome around 150,000 domestic and foreign visitors.

Nha Trang Sea Festival takes place every two years for a week during June in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa province. The first Nha Trang Sea Festival was held in 2003 when Nha Trang Beach was proclaimed as a member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club.

Khanh Hoa targets to receive 5.5 million tourist arrivals this year, up 17% from 2016, including 1.7 million foreigners.

In the first three months of this year, the province welcomed over 1.1 million tourists, up 26% from the same period last year and earned USD175.95 million in tourism revenue.
