HO CHI MINH CITY Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism says Bui Vien Street in District 1 will be turned into a pedestrian way in the evenings effective 15 July.
Local media reported the walking street will open between 1900 and 0200 daily.
Bui Vien Street is a popular entertainment zone for foreign visitors famous for its restaurants, outdoor food stalls, budget hotels and shops.
Once Bui Vien Pedestrian Street opens, it will have free Wi-Fi, information services for tourists and public toilets. All vehicles will be prohibited during evenings.
Musicians will perform both local and international music on the street every Saturday and Sunday.
Bui Vien Street’s 1,400-metre long sidewalk is being paved with granite stone and decorated with light posts. The two entrances to the street will have a stylised palm-leaf conical hat design.
The Department of Tourism and the District 1 People’s Committee will offer training in community-based tourism for the street’s residents to ensure they can benefit more from tourism, the report added.
