Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) attended the "Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) High Level Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Tourism" in Vietnam. The Office hoped to exchange information about diversification and sustainable development of the tourism industry, as well as to raise Macao's visibility and participation in international tourism associations through this attendance.
MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong attended the APEC High Level Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Tourism, which was held in Ha Long city, Vietnam on 19 June. Vietnam officials and representatives from international tourism organizations delivered remarks in the opening session. During the meeting, representatives from various member economies and international tourism organizations have exchanged views and held in-depth discussions on a series of topics. A Statement of the APEC High Level Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Tourism Development has been adopted and consensus on a number of issues has been reached throughout the meeting.
Since Macao, China is an APEC guest economy, MGTO has been participating in the meetings and activities of APEC's Tourism Working Group. Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong expressed that MGTO has been undergoing different aspects of work to ensure the diversification and sustainable development of Macao's tourism industry. Through attending the High Level Policy Dialogue, MGTO hopes to learn from the invaluable experience from different destinations and at the same time share with them the work done on promoting sustainable tourism development in Macao. The Office also hopes to raise Macao's visibility and participation in international tourism associations through taking part in the related activities and events.
