Singapore Airlines has announced its intention to introduce a new low fare subsidiary airline on medium and long-haul routes and plans to begin operation within one year.
The decision to introduce the new no frills airline was established following extensive reviews and analysis and will allow SIA to cater to the growing demand among consumers for low-fare travel. The Airline will be owned by Singapore Airlines, however will be operated and managed independently.
We are very excited about what our new low-fare subsidiary will offer to consumers. We are seeing a new market segment being created and this will provide another growth opportunity for the SIA Group, Singapore Airlines Chief executive Goh Choon Phong said.
As we have observed on short-haul routes within Asia, low fare airlines help stimulate demand for travel, and we expect this will also prove true for longer flights, Mr Goh said.Mr Goh said that despite the new plans they are still completely committed to further the growth of SIA, and continue to offer the highest quality products and customer service to its customers.
