Asia is among the regions that are proving popular among people who will soon be embarking on gap year adventures, according to Lonely Planet.
Tom Hall, the company’s travel editor, highlighted India, Nepal and south-east Asia – a region that encompasses Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and other countries – as good options owing to their value for money.
He also pointed out that some Chinese airlines are offering ‘tempting’ flight prices which could lead to more people visiting cities like Beijing and Shanghai.
‘Indonesia is another destination that’s attracting more visitors than it has for a few years, who are venturing beyond Bali to islands further east to meet Komodo dragons and leave the crowds behind,’ added Mr Hall.
The Lonely Planet spokesman also highlighted the option of staying closer to home for UK travellers, pointing out that British nationals can work anywhere in the EU.
For those looking for excitement and adventure, Mr Hall recommended hiking trips or cycling holidays in African countries such as Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia.
