INDONESIA Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik made two changes to the ministry’s directorate general of marketing lineup last Friday.
MICE director Nia Niscaya has been named director of international promotion, replacing Noviendi Makalam, who will spearhead the state-owned Bandung Tourism Institute.
Taking over Niscaya's position as MICE director is Berman Lubis, who was formerly head of research and development programmes and cooperatives at the ministry’s Resource Development Board.
Speaking during the inauguration for Lubis and Niscaya, Wacik said: “International promotion is the spearhead of marketing and it plays an important role in determining the success of our marketing targets.”“MICE is an area we are pumping to grow,” he added.
Lubis told TTG Asia e-Daily he was planning to work more closely with government agencies and associations to attract and bid for more events, not only in major but also secondary MICE destinations in Indonesia.
Niscaya said: “My role will be to execute programmes set by the directorate general of marketing. The general idea is that we will continue to focus (on 18 target) countries with widened and more in-depth reaches.”
“While maintaining co-operation with major wholesalers the industry has been partnering with, we will be talking to smaller and special interest agents, who have actually been selling and who are interested in selling Indonesia,” she added.
