Spice Roads Cycle Tours released details, Tuesday, of its latest multi-country cycling programme featuring Vietnam and Cambodia.
The company has scheduled the first departure 8 January 2012 covering 14 days from Hoi An in Vietnam to Siem Reap in Cambodia a distance of 700-km.
The tour will commence in the port town Hoi An in central Vietnam and will travel through the central highlands heading to the remote border crossing of Le Thanh.
The multi-country cycling tour costs US$2,15o per person exclusive of bike rental (US$165) twin-share, or pay a single room supplement of US$425. The tour has six departures in 2012: 8 January; 5 February; 4 March, 30 September; 18 November and 23 December.
Cyclists will spend a few days in Rattanakari, a northeastern province in Cambodia before visiting Siem Reap.
This is a soft cycle tour covering between 50 to 80 km a day maximum and plenty of hops between cycling stints using an air-conditioned van, which also carries supplies, snacks and drinks.
Highlights of the multi-country tour are culture and landscapes at historical sites like My Son, a Hindu temple between 4th to 14th century AD by the King of Champa and ethnic tribes of Jarai and Bhanar that can be seen in the highlands of Vietnam.
For riders who love coffee, Pleiku town in Gia Lai province will be a draw card as the town is home to the best Vietnam coffee and stunning views of tea and coffee plantations.
In Cambodia, cyclists will enjoy the ride along the Mekong River where dolphins are often spotted in Kratie or Kracheh, a province in northeastern Cambodia. Lastly, riders will spend two days exploring Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.
