August airport traffic up

Airport of Thailand released its latest data, Monday, showing double digit improvements in both aircraft movements and passengers during August at six airports under its management.

Aircraft movements at six airports across the country grew by 18.13% from 32,488 to 38,378 in August, while passenger traffic was up 20.76% from 4,767,335 to 5,756,842 when compared to the same period last year.

Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport improved its international movements by 14.74% (16,063 to 18,430). However, domestic aircraft movements dropped by 0.67% (6,305 to 6,263).

Passenger traffic at the main gateway registered positive changes as both international and domestic passengers increased. International traffic increased by 17.50% (2,740,232 to 3,219,749) and domestic was up 14.86% (800,200 to 919,132) compared to the same month last year.

Northern gateway, Chiang Mai Airport, registered a dramatic increase in international aircraft movements of 74.61% (193 to 337), while domestic movements also increased, but only by 23.21% (1,805 to 2,224).

Chiang Mai Airport also recorded a stunning growth in international passenger traffic of 77.38% (17,021 to 30,192). Domestic traffic also improved 26.50% (from 226,379 to 286,368).

Phuket Airport, a southern aviation gateway,  recorded improvements in both international and domestic aircraft movements. International movements were up 32.66% (2,785 to 2,368) and domestic increased by 4.08% (2,159 to 2,247) compared to August last year.

Passenger traffic at Phuket Airport improved with international passengers up 43.26% (249,665 to 357,680) and domestic up 19.38% (299,433 to 357,461).

On the domestic scene, Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport reported a huge increase in aircraft movements at 77.24% (2,658 to 4,711) as well as passenger traffic up 42.2% (251,872 to 358,154) compared to the same month last year.

Chiang Rai Airport bucked the trend with a decline in aircraft movements, down 1.56% (384 to 378), but passengers registered an improvement of 10.49% (54,632 to 60,363).

Hat Yai Airport recorded increases in both aircraft movements and passenger traffic of 12.31% (902 to 1,013) and 25.07% (113,878 to 142,424) respectively when compared to the same month last year.
