Vietnam eyes further religious cooperation with Cambodia in the near future, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Wednesday at the reception for Venerable Tepvong, Buddhist Supreme Patriarch of Cambodia, in Hanoi. The official added that religions have made important contribution to the national construction and defense in each country.

-- The Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism awarded Wednesday the insignia ‘For the Cause of Culture, Sports and Tourism’ to the First Secretary at the German Embassy in Hanoi in recognition of her contribution to promoting cooperation in these fields between Vietnam and Germany.

-- British Council in Hanoi conluded Wednesday an English course for United Nations peacekeeping operation purposes. 24 Vietnamese defense ministry officials reached the A2 level of the six-level Common European Framework of Reference for Languages after 5 months of participating in the course. This is part of the memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation signed last November between Vietnam and the UK.

-- A college lecturer in Ho Chi Minh City was required to pay VND5 million (US$240) in compensation to his school after quitting it.

-- The Ministry of Education and Training signed Wednesday a deal with Pearson Education, a U.S.-based book publisher, to prepare textbooks for Vietnamese school students.
