Round 1 consisted of true-or-false items, while rounds 1 and 2 had multiple-choice items and fill in the blanks items, respectively.
Questions revolved around many aspects of ASEAN, including its role, history, culture, politics, economy, security and tourism that tested the contestants’ knowledge and understanding of the ASEAN region, the report explained.
KNCHS principal Fernando Hilomen, said de Pedro -- a consistent honor student – qualified as a member of the team when he won second place in the national quiz in February.
De Pedro said while preparing for the quiz, he had to do away with a lot of usual teenager activities, including updating his facebook account.
The quiz, he added, also gave him opportunity to learn about the cultures of the ASEAN-member countries.
As winner, he received a trophy and US$400 cash prize.
According to the ASEAN Secretariat website, the 5th ASEAN Quiz Regional Competition was part of the celebration of the ASEAN 45th Anniversary.
It was organized by the Ministry of Information of Cambodia with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and the ASEAN Secretariat.
The ASEAN Quiz is a project of ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN-COCI) funded by the ASEAN Cultural Fund to raise ASEAN awareness among the young generation of ASEAN citizens. It takes place in different ASEAN host countries every two years
