PUTRAJAYA, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's advancement within the tourism industry was acknowledged with three of its top tourism officials being appointed to prominent posts in various international tourism authorities.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said the first appointment was the Ministry's secretary-general Datuk Dr Ong Hong Peng as chairman of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), Commission for South East Asia and the Pacific for the 2012-2013 term.
"He was also appointed as the chairman of the UNWTO program and budget committee," she added, speaking at the Ministry's monthly gathering here.
The next was deputy director-general Datuk Azizan Nordin's appointment to the Pacific Asia Travel Association board and as chairperson of the destination sub-committee for National and Provincial Tourist Offices Worldwide, she said.
Also receiving an international appointment recently was Malaysia Conventions and Exhibition Bureau, chief executive officer, Zulkefli Shariff, who will be president of the Association of ASEAN Conventions and Visitors Bureau, she said.
