HANOI, 13 September 2012: Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates the country welcomed 525,292 international travellers in August representing a slight increase of 7.20% over 490,000 visits during the same month last year.
Thailand’s outbound travel market ranked 10th place with 19,695 visits up 3.6% on the same month in 2011.
China led the field supplying 120,514 visits improving 2.65% from 117,400 visits followed by South Korea, Japan, the United States, Taiwan and Cambodia.
Neigbouring Cambodia stood in sixth place supplying 24,613 visits, but decreasing 34.54% from 37,600 visits during the same month last year.
All of the top markets are in the Asia/Pacific region with the exception of the United States and France.
The bulk of arrivals in August (442,292) passed through the two main aviation gateways Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City.
For January to August this year, international travellers showed an improvement of 10.64% from 4,384,998 visits compared to 3,963,300 visits during the same period last year.
