Kuala Lumpur, 9th November 2012– Chef Wan returns with his celebration of ASEAN cuisine in the fourth ASEAN Heritage Food Trail, to be held on November 9 – 22, 2012. Supported by Tourism Malaysia, this yearly event sees many local and international chefs coming together to promote food and culture from the ten countries in the South East Asia region.

The event will take place in Lot 10 Mall in Kuala Lumpur and is anticipated to bring different types of people together to experience a festival of food, culture and tradition. Local celebrity chefs will also support the event by conducting a live cooking demonstration of their favourite ASEAN dishes. The public can expect familiar names such as Chef Riz, Chef Florence Tan, Chef Celine Marbeck, Chef Zaidah, Chef Sara Thida, Chef Liza and Chef Shukri. The event will also include international chefs such as Chef Sisca Soewitomo from Indonesia, Chef Garth Welsh from Australia, Chef Michael Elfwing from Sweden, and Chef Frédéric Cerchi from France, who will also share their tips and recipes on their chosen ASEAN delicacy. Tourists and visitors to the festival will be able to watch first hand the step-by-step demonstration of cooking an ASEAN dish and have a taste of their cooking. Photo sessions and Q&A will also be available for the public to interact directly with their favorite chefs.

Along with cooking demonstrations by chefs, there will also be competitions held between local culinary colleges, where they will compete to earn the title of the most outstanding ASEAN based cooking school in the country. The public may also participate in a cooking competition, where food enthusiasts are invited to create their best ASEAN dish. A panel of culinary judges and members of the audience will choose the winner. The winner will also be declared the ASEAN Heritage Food Champion 2012.

On top of that, the event will also present the title of “Best ASEAN Food Restaurant” to five outstanding restaurants in Malaysia, handpicked by Chef Wan himself. These restaurants will be showcasing the cooking process of their signature dish and will be giving out free tasting for the public.

Celebrity chef Chef Wan claims that the event has been a huge success since its kick-off in 2009. “People love food and it is important in bringing people from different cultures and backgrounds together. This event will showcase the similarities between the ASEAN countries in our recipes and dishes,” he continues.
