Florida Tourism is facing tough times due to massive oil spills from oil drilling operation. Florida Tourism fears that spilled oil may reach the beaches in the state costing billions of revenue from Tourism.
The accident occurred when a platform operated by BP exploded which killed 11 workers on site. It also broke a pipe deep in the sea which is now spilling more than 40,000 gallons of oil per day. Unfortunately Florida is one the states where this oil can create problems as the state generates billions of dollars though beach tourism.
However its too early to make any assumption if the oil will wash up on the popular beaches of Florida. Right now officials in Florida has kept a nervous eye on the situation and hoping that the situation will come under control before it starts to damage tourism in Florida.
Florida wildlife crew are also worried from the current situation and making necessary arrangements in case oil reaches the shores of Florida.
At least for now Florida doesn't appears to be in the way of spilled oil. Only way oil can reach Florida is with the help of winds, oil can not reach Florida by itself. Even in such case it would take weeks before oil shows up on the beaches of Florida.
But a Computer model shows that ocean currents around our state could curve the oil down into the Florida Keys, and then up the state's Atlantic coast in about a week and a half to two weeks. It has also warned that winds are likely to change direction by the weekend, making the Florida Keys and the Atlantic coast vulnerable. If the oil gets into this loop current then it will move very quickly and will reach Florida in around 1 week and Miami in 2 week time.
Disaster responders in Florida are planning a bold move to Set the floating oil on fire to protect wildlife in the region. It will also protect popular beaches in Florida from washed up oil.
