The International Tourism Fair opens on Monday night (Tuesday morning, Moscow time) in Cuba. Russia participates as guest of honor. This choice is largely due to the fact that in recent years, Cuban resorts have become increasingly popular among Russians. In January and February this year alone, around 9,000 tourists from Russia visited Cuba, which is 12 percent more than in the same period in 2009. The event will be held from 3rd to 8th of May. In the framework of the fair the Cuban side will dwell on prospects of tourism in the east of the Island. Tourism is one of the main sources of foreign exchange earnings of the Caribbean republic. Ranking first in the number of tourists coming here is Canada. It is followed by Britain, Italy, Spain, Germany and France. Last year the Island was visited by more than 2 million people.
