LHASA, Tibet - Tourism officials from China and Nepal signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to jointly boost tourism between the two countries.

The MoU was signed in Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, at the sixth session of the China-Nepal Tourism Joint Coordinating Committee, which convened on Monday.

The two sides have agreed to promote tourism development and cooperation as well as the opening-up of ports and resumption of direct passenger land transport between Lhasa and Kathmandu, capital of Nepal.

Officials from the Tibet Tourism Bureau said Tibet and Nepal are complementary in terms of tourism resources, and strengthening tourism cooperation between the two sides has great significance for mutual benefit.

Nepal has seen a steady rise in Chinese tourists since the Himalayan country became a tourism destination for Chinese citizens in 2001.
