BANGKOK, 14 May 2013: Thailand Incentive and Convention Association says tourism needs a leader to coordinate the industry, according to TICA president, Sumate Sudasna, who noted that tourism was growing, but without clear direction due to the lack of leadership and cooperation.
“Although we have the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to take care of the tourism industry, there is a need for a coordinator to lead the various agencies,” he said.
“If the government wants to reach its tourism revenue goal of Bt2 trillion by 2015, all related sectors will need to work together.”
In addtion, the president suggested that the country should present new venues to boost events rather than relying on the same destinations.
2013 has been designated Chiang Mai Year of MICE to coincide with the opening of the Chiang Mai Convention Centre. The facility will host its first paying event, the Asia Pacific Water Forum, 14 to 20 May.
