Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen said although 2009 had been a difficult year for tourism globally, it was somehow a good year for the Malaysian tourism industry.
Malaysia attracts 23 million tourists in 2009.
In 2009, there have been only slight changes in the ranking of the top ten destinations by international tourist arrivals, while the ranking in terms of tourism receipts remains unchanged compared to the 2008 list.
The first three places in both arrivals and revenues are still occupied by France, Spain and the USA even though in a different order.
In 2009, France attracts 74 million tourists and continues to lead the ranking of the world's major tourism destinations in terms of arrivals and ranks third in revenues.
